I was born and raised in Pretoria, the third of five siblings. I grew up in a home where both my parents were Christians. I am married to Jurita and have three daughters, Charlotte, Sulani and Jute. While listening to a well known missionary from Japan, Neil Verwey, at the age of thirteen, I received the calling to become a minister. The calling was actually to be a missionary myself, but at that time I thought the only way to work for the Lord was to study Theology and become a minister. After my studies I became a minister to the Dutch Reformed church. I worked in Windhoek, Namibia and then in Moreletapark Pretoria for a period of 23 years. I was most of the time involved in mobilizing the church into missionary work. During this time I realised that it was not only Theological qualified ministers that can work for the Lord, but it is actually the calling for every member of the church. I started a Church Planting school in 2008 at Vastfontein, a small holding fifty kilometres North of Pretoria. We train people mainly from the townships to start a faith community wherever they are. It can either be in their workplace, neighbourhood or community. Because I belief in the church, it is important to saturate every community with Bible believing servant leaders that can demonstrate the love of Christ in every possible manner. I resign as a fulltime minister during January 2010, but am still part of the DRC Moreletapark as a tentmaker. I have joined Frans Hancke and his team at thePlan in helping the mobilization of churches to become a part of Gods Plan as He intended it to be. I believe that the church can make a difference in transforming communities, if she understands her mandate given by God. |
